Post-birthday party, Judo playing a techno set in san marcos out of a u-haul truck til around 3am. in a random field, bunch of people being really aggro and eventually starting a bonfire n all having to dip - then a drive home with lots of singing and being half asleep n sweet.

Nate used to have a neighbor who left up their christmas lights for like 5 months, and every time I'd leave his place there'd be a liminal moment in my car before my cd would start playing where I'd just watch this icicle display framed in my window faux-melt in silence during middle of spring at like 3am. Eventually they did construction on that street n parked a bulldozer there for like 2 weeks without doing anything. strange energy. Listened to a lot of nick drake at the time.

From month living in Japan, a random backroom of the ghibli museum had a bunch of props in open air storage and you could walk through, this was a 5 foot miniature of howls moving castle in the background of some ponyo things - one of those shooting on film moments where the final thing ended up being way cooler than what was in the viewfinder & same with how it looked in black and white vs irl, have pic of same room on my phone and it looks so unassuming.

Toasting for Nate's birthday, iconic red lamp that defined that house n the next - every other picture i took there is purely red. The second house had this shed nextdoor that was this peeling sunburnt blue and there was an hour or so long period where it was dark enough for the lamp to start coloring the walls inside and light enough to see the shed through the window and it made this really pretty 2 tone frame. Lot of times we cheers'd for Nate though, the audio is from celebrating his move to NY this august.

House show at paper tiger, placeholder date for every show there ever - always overhear weird ass convos in the bathrooms of any bar on the strip. Friend lived one block over so green light to get really messed up n walk home. There was a Blank Hellscape show i lost my car keys at i remember really vividly because at one point that night each of the 5 of us rolled on the floor independently and with different motivations.

chilling on Op's couch in the new space freshly moved back, precursor of way more laughing fits and parallel play to come. she's tracing a tattoo flash sheet while her sister n i watched rom coms ad infinitum. nights there always devolve into singing, someone hanging upside down, or falling asleep mid sentence. At some this week I had gotten bitten by ants sleeping on their couch and still have 3 scars in a perfect triangle around my belly button. Fifi calls them warthog bites - fittingly Op and I are singing about warthogs at the start of this one.

Lake nightcap, punctuating a night of barcrawling and introducing friends to each other by singing to the geese and half falling asleep on a picnic table til 2:30 or so. Lot of voice crack infused Cameron Winter and Renny Conti covers to fill the silence. First of many hangs with Ana this summer before she went back to spain and in the moment could tell it was gonna be a good summer.

Nate reading us a poem after cooking us dinner, little suspended moment of rerouting attention and setting the tone for a discussion to have with loved ones. lot of trust and care in these moments, just making an intention to want to care feels sweet even if you can't find the right words on your own. good people, good food. missing a lot of days like this they all seem really earnest in retrospect.
