each song is built around voice memos & audio from the day i took the picture; this day (12.13.2023) was a precursor to what would become my 2 closest friendships over the years, still early days of getting to know each other but invited to cook dinner and was the first of many home cooked meals to come. They would open each meal very intentionally and instead of praying would read a poem or share something to start a discussion while we ate. Thankfully i recorded one even back then before i got fully in the habit of documenting basically anything i can. This is audio of a poem he wrote himself but same praxis of opening a meal with one, paying homeage to the one that started it all off in the pic which was from the black unicorn by audre lorde. I love how time warps everything, i feel like months go by so fast now & its easy to get so much meaning out of things way sooner, the time it takes for things to digest or better understand the meaning/importance of goes by whether you notice or not. I love that a lot about picture-taking and record keeping whether its the voice memos or photo dumps or monthly vlogs, its enforces the idea that the right-nows are going to become so much more than you can know & just the act of stopping to capture something in whatever medium is a way to affirm and celebrating that. I didnt know how good I had it with so many friends in arms reach back then but I do know how good I have it now, and every time i stop to record a moment in my life i try to be extra grateful because my future self will want me to have been. I'm never grateful enough but i keep taking pictures.
